On June 14th 2022, 200 people joined us in Meta’s London offices to listen to Nemonte Nenquimo, an Indigenous Waorani leader from the Amazon.

Event took place on: 14 June 2022

Listening Sessions are an opportunity to listen to the Indigenous Peoples and land-based communities who are 5% of the world population protecting 80% of biodiversity. They are the real climate leaders. During these events, influential Westerners; model and actress Cara Delevinge; the Guilty Feminist Deborah Frances-White; Meta’s head of Sustainability Eoghan Griffin; JP Morgan’s Head of Wealth Advisory Maya Prabhu were invited to pass the mic, listen to Nemonte and disperse the teachings in their areas of influence.

Nemonte Nenquimo is a Waorani woman, mother and leader, who has dedicated her life to the defense of Indigenous ancestral territory and cultural survival in the Amazon rainforest. She is the co-founder of the Indigenous-led nonprofit organization Ceibo Alliance and its sister organization Amazon Frontlines, the first female president of the Waorani organization of Pastaza province, winner of the Goldman Environmental Prize for Central and South America, the United Nations’ Champions of the Earth Award, BBC 100 Women of 2020 and TIME 100 most influential people in the world.
