On November 11th at the Barbican Centre in London, Benki Piyako will be discussing his communities collective efforts to shape culturally & ecosystem-enriching, innovative and scalable restoration methods with Flourishing Diversity co-founder Jerome Lewis.
We’re elated to welcome Benki Piyako back to London for the Earthed Summit.
President of the Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute and a spiritual & political leader from Apiwtxa, an Ashaninka community situated in the Amazonian state of Acre in Brazil, Benki was one of the incredible Indigenous leaders who joined us for the 2019 Flourishing Diversity London series.
Responding to rapid deforestation and species loss and informed by ancestral knowledge and wisdom passed down from generation to generation, the Apiwtxa community have developed a series of strategies designed to help their community thrive: unique agroforestry systems, fish farms, protecting the forest, and efforts to sustain traditional culture.
Recognised for their outstanding contribution to environmental regeneration, protection and cultural revitalisation, the Apiwtxa community has received national and international recognition including the 2017 United Nations Equator Prize.
We invite you to join us at the Earthed summit to listen to Benki, Jerome and other inspiring & practical talks, workshops & panels showcasing accessible solutions for nature restoration and community revitalisation.
