Sacred sites are the oldest form of protected areas and many of them are very important biodiversity reservoirs. Indigenous peoples are the guardians of many sacred sites around the world, describing how – like organs in a living body – these sites are an interconnected energy network that supports the health of the whole organism of Earth, including the global ecosystem.

Sacred sites also support indigenous and traditional people’s spirituality and ways of life by helping to keep traditions, cultures, languages, and archeological knowledge alive.

One Ancient Future is a global alliance for Sacred Sites. Guided by indigenous wisdom councils, the alliance consists of conservationists, academics, sacred advocates, and legal, cultural, and conservation organizations engaged in sacred site protection and activation.
